My mom and her brother have alzheimers and fortunately for us, they have both always been so kind hearted and sweet natured we have none of the horror stories some of your friends have to deal with. I also began to get holes in my memory and was very worried until I brought it up among friends and discovered that ALL of us were starting to have the EXACT same problems... it isn't a neon sign that you have alzheimers, but it IS a sign of just plain old regular getting older. Please, don't worry. Start watching your friends and you will probably have this realization. We get older and the old meat computer [brain] has to shove old data out of the way because you collect an awful of data over a long life... also, the older we get, the better we are at just dumping what is not of particular interest to us. I definitely do not have the same concerns as a 25 or a 40 year old person... and that is fine. Just don't let it scare you because you have other things on your mind or because you have [unconscjously] learned to clear out what is not really essential to your daily life. Be well and take good care!

I have been on drugs for depression since 1983, my son died and my husband left me. My grandma had a depression of over 40 years and was in a hospital. My mother and her cousin died of Alzheimers' and My brother and I are concerned with getting the diesase. I have recently seen
my Medial Dr. and she gave me all kinds of tests, mri, ctscan, everything. Nothing back yet. I will be 66 next
month and I seem to be forgetting things alot lately. Is
there a good chance that I or my brother will get it?

I have struggled with depression since I was a child.
Also survivor of incest, which increased the depression I am currently dealing with. I have been on anti-depressant medication since 1984. I have been experiencing trouble with short term memory for a few years now, but not sure if it's due to depression, the medications I take, or onset of Alzheimer's. No history of Alzheimer's in my family. How concerned should I be about developing Alzheimer's?

Hi,
I have been caring for my father who has been dx. with Alzheimer's, but from what I can see he just has several short term memory loss. He has always been very pleasant, kind and caring. I had Dad with my 2 year old grand-daughter for one week and they had a great time together. Dad just wants to have something to do and has been very helpful. Dad has been sad because he has not been allowed to work much and has tended to sleep more. The drug you have mentioned sounds like if may be helpful for my Dad. Does the drug help with the short term memory?
