I have had the surgery to correct my apnea. This was the most painful surgery I have ever had. The healing was excruciating for about two weeks. They didn't tell me that of course. The operation was only partially successful I can sleep sitting up in a chair.

In order to sleep in the bed I need a cpap machine. I have been using it for about thirteen years now.

It is annoying using the mask but it beats the alternative. DEATH

boy- what a wonderful article full of absolutely no information-
what kind of surgery is whoever wrote this talking about-
Mandibular advancement, UPPP (which is notoriously unsuccessful) or stents in the pharyx to support the real area of concern- Useless!!!!
What about oral appliances that actually bring the severe apnic back to normal ranges?
Anybody reading this should look before they leap as far as surgery goes

I used cpap for about 2 years prior to surgery for OSA in 1996. The traditional UPPP (UP3) surgery was initially unsuccessful, due to a lengthy healing time.
About a year after surgery however, the OSA was finally resolved.
