My grandmother also had stomach cancer at 87 years old, but, after surgery, she lived until she was 97. PLEASE be sure to have your B12 checked though since it can cause this. My great-grandmother died of Pernecious Anemia at age 54, my grandmother had it, my mother and aunt had it, and now I have it. The book, "Could It Be B12" explains how B12 could be a cause for stomach cancer. A lot of problems can be reversed or kept from progressing if a B12 deficiency is caught early enough - if not, it's a horrible ride!

My dear mother Marie died of Gastric Cancer in December of 1993; she was 71. She did not smoke, drink, ate a well balanced diet,(she did love her sweets, red meat), and by the time it was diagnosed it was stage 4 metatisis. I went into her bathroom and noticed a ring around the sink, and when I questioned her she admitted that she had thrown up. She also began loosing weight... She stated she always felt full! We went to Sloan Kettering in NYC,and the oncologist, (I won't mention his name) was so disrepectful. When I asked him how long she had, his comment was... If you have paperwork that is needing completion I would get it done now! I brought her to his office and we were so distraught. He took three different interuptions while we were in his office. At that point I got up, and said Mom we are leaving, you are not going to have this man as a doctor. I was BLESSED to find a doctor by the name of Dr. Alex Hindenburg who worked at Winthrop Hospital in Mineola NY. He was wonderful! By his care Mom lived a year and a half!! Long enough to see me get married,(she walked me down the aisle),and give birth to her first grandchild. She told me that Jacqueline's Christening was her goal. She died 60 days later. I miss her so much, I wish she would have not hid her symptoms for as long as she did. I might still have her today. After, they did paliative surgery on Mom... her incision opened up and she drained bile for the rest of her life. She was on TPN to bypass the stomach for the duration of her life. Today I am a nurse and have dedicated my career to my Mom. It was the wonderful nurses that taught me so much how to take care of my Mom. She was the most couragous person I have ever known. At the end I had hospice in my home and they were wonderful... again the nurses taught me so much. I miss her terribly... Please if you have these symptoms, let your doctor know!!

I wanted to enforce the importance of early detection. In our busy ives we shrug off symptoms and chalk everything up to stress. My grandmother never had "time" to go see a doctor and by the time she couldn't keep food down and was bleeding in her stools, she had a 10 pound tumor in her stomach, something that may have been treatable had she taken better care of herself. Don't have time? You might not have much at all, really.
