More than 158 million children in child labour
Children are God’s greatest gift. They are born to live and blossom. Child labour is a common problem in most countries. An estimated 158 million children aged 5-14 are engaged in child labour – one in six children in the world. It is one of the major evils of urbanization and industrialization. Child labour is engaged not because of shortage of labourers, but due to its easy availability and cheapness.
For specific jobs women and child labour is considered to be more convenient and cheaper. Normally child labour is engaged for simple and easy jobs. So, these children do not need specific training or education. These workers are mostly available directly through other workers. Specific attempts through advertisement or employment exchanges are not necessary.
Child labour is a social evil. In a way it is an economic evil also. Now sociologists, government, social reformers etc are opposing the evil of child labour. Most of the child labour is actually a bonded labour. It simply ruins the childhood of the children and makes them pessimistic.
Various legislations are there to cure the evils of child labour. Everyone knows the evils of child and bonded labour. Legislations also prohibit these. However, these laws are not properly implemented, so child labour is still in existence.

What can we do? How can I help? Are there groups working specifically to put an end to child labor? Can you please let me know of a website list of organizations working to end this horrible, cruel practice? Can these children be adopted by people outside their own countries, or do their governments make it really difficult to do so? Thank you.
