Bribery and Corruption

Can Bribery and Corruption be wiped out from USA?

Why single out the USA for corruption and bribery? We know in our gut and realize in fact, that it occurs in the lesser economies around the world at higher rates and with more significant effects. The poorer peoples suffer most from bribery and corruption. In the USA it happens in many forms and no doubt, at all levels of government. Not only is there governmental corruption, but personal corruption exists as well. We examine the government aspect here. We observe it at the highest levels of our government from Congress to municipal echelons as well. But can we wipe it out? No, never. We would have to change human nature first.

Corruption can be defined as obtaining illicit personal gains by official. It is not always unlawful, but is always unethical and remains a morality issue. Corruption exists in many modes: political, economic, and so on. In any sort of association involving human intercourse, corruption can occur. One form of corruption is bribery. In this method, one pays another for an action and the other person accepts money or gifts for a deed performed. The briber obtains an advantage. If there is no demonstrable advantage, then there is no bribery.

What is the cause of corruption and bribery? Moral deficiency is the foundation for all corruption and bribery. Selfishness in a word. If government officials were honest and committed to working to improve the lives of their constituents, it would not occur. But man is both human and fallible. Thus, corruption occurs and will continue. In view of our nature, it is not realistic to think that we can eliminate corruption and bribery in the USA or anywhere. But we can try to limit it and police it.

Some say that we need transparency in all human, corporate and governmental actions. If all is out in the open, no wrong can occur. The people will see it and react. Information must be easily exchanged and freely available. Inherent in this is a free press and speech to monitor the government and report what is observed.

A nation must function under a democratic form of government. A strong rule of law with a well established legal profession and free judiciary must function. Without the courts, bribery and so on will run rampant. Accounting laws and principles must be applied openly as well. Transparency is the key word to every area to avoid corruption.

Corruption and bribery are worldwide occurrences and not confined to the USA. In fact, it probably transpires here less than elsewhere. Also, it is no doubt, policed better here. No matter, we will never rid ourselves of this problem no matter how hard we try. Human nature is corrupt.

How can you use the words democrat and law in the same sentence? Our nation was founded as a republic. A republic is still ruled by a majority with the exception that it has laws to protect the minority. Some older dictionaries still define a democracy as mob rule.

Wha The Says:

There’s only one way to do away with the bribery and corruption in America…

Reduce the government down to what it needs to be, instead of this giant leech that steals and devours everything it comes in contact with, and restore the States’ rights to enforce the country’s and their laws effectively without moronic arguments that stall the process.

Oh, and drop American Income Tax down to ZERO percent, so that the government will never have enough cash to try and take over the country and our rights again. That should do it, then it won’t matter what anyone’s political affiliation will be, the power will be back in the PEOPLE’S hands instead of the government and the rich.

No Taxation Without Representation

RYAN Says:

I feel that the idea of having transparency is definitely good. It could work as long as no one whomsoever and i mean no one be able to avoid the rule. Now my idea is alittle bit better. Everyone does these dishonorable things for money.I feel that we should eliminate money. Allow people to get the things they need. Allow people to also obtain the luxuries of life with a quota system. Money is behind all corruption, in some form or another. Why am i the first with this simple idea. Yes i realize that industries have to be ran. thats why everyone would donate a certain amount of time to produce things that the usa would need.Corruption, bribery, and everything negative will always exist until money has been eliminated and we the people have the things we need. Only a certain few are getting all the trillions. We better stop them before they build a space station and go into space and then pollute the earth and then come back.

Chuck Reasor Says:

I agree that corruption is rampart in all facits of politics and government. Let’s look at the corporate world a little. The hidden and even obvious bribery and payoffs became exceedingly more pronounced when the courts allowed Corporations and Unions and other large types of business the same rights as the individuals was meant to have. The big business as well as the unions should not be able to contribute or support any organization the promotes any political office. We can inject the issue of morality here and it is completely valid. Our colleges teach the students that you are subservant to the Corporations and it’s you job, in any manner, to make sure they have the advantage in any situation irregardless of any moral issue involved. There is little morality in the business world generally. That’s not to say there aren’t honest and moral business people in the world but it seems that they like politicians frequently lose grip of the individual morality that is necessary for the democratic system to work. We are becoming a two level syster, ie, the rich and the poor with now middle class. Can we change things–not until we can get rid the political element and pass laws where corporations and unions are not individual’s under our laws that was meant to apply only to individual humans. When we do that we can make the government work for all the people and not for the lobbyists and PAC’s that bribe them.

donald mcleod Says:

Bribery and corruption is indeed widespread here and abroad. The US problem is that Congressional and other politicians rail against foreign corruption while stuffing their pockets with political contributions made to influence favorable legislation. These hypocrites are no different from the US televangelists who inveigh against sin while sexually ransacking the female members of their congregations on the sly.

mahalapril Says:

Of course, It will be very easy because only the democrats are CORRUPT and easily bribed.

Chicago Bryant Says:

Bribery & Corruption
We all know it goes on in every society around the globe it is up to us be honest. We all have know right from wrong.I know our society in the USA as the article states is less corrupt. The unfortunate part is it goes from politics to the police officer’s. I had friend that was police officer who joined the police department the whole town was corrupsst
the officer’s were doing drugs he was caught up in it he quit. I seen both good in people and liars cheats
I seen corruption in buinesses I don’t go for it. My Dad taught me what integrity honesty courage making mistakes admitting to them i was taught forgive people . Whe as god Creatures are the only thing on this earth that we know are doing the correct thing and wrong. I have seen alot in my day good and bad . I alsoseen people who are good but made poor judgement’s mistakes we all are guilty. I have had diffrent police officer give me break from speeding.police officers blatenly lie arrest me twist the truth to make you look bad. they are guilty of being corrupt people abuse powers they get on power trips lose site of being in what ever postion they are in this goes into elder’s at church . I also see our society we can jump to conclusions to quick to judge. we need to all set examples being honest even if that means taking the postion this is right thing to do even if your the only one. i have worked for a few people that stole abused lied cheated I have worked in construction project mangement have the owner tell me i work for them i have to be dishonest few people tryed that on me and didn’t work I can’t be bought to be corrupt. the ony person that can take my honesty away know one else that I was taught to me by my dad and shown by example and the people he dealt with showed me things by there example patience resolving conflicts by being honest teaching me how to do things i also try to practice that to the best of my ability . The root of most corruption is money driven or power trip.

Water H. King Says:

I think that to a large extent the corruption is systemic.

By that I mean the system of electing Congressmen.

These Senators and Represenbtatives promulgate all Federal Laws and have oversight powers.

The problem is that give or take a few dollars they are officially paid about $300K a year if you include various job benefits but exclude “campaign contributions (read bribes).

REPERESENTATIVES HAVE TO RUN FOR RE-ELECTION EVERY 2 YEARS AT A COST OF FROM $2-$3 MILLION. Senators have to run every six yars at a cost from $4 to $7 Million. So unless they can get contributions from lobbyists or are already hugely “Rockerfeller-Kennedy” wealthy they would all be bankrupt after their first term or at least out of office. To survive at all they have to: “get camaign contributions”,
that is to say “bribes” and they spend 75% of their time in office chasing these contributions. The costs of this to the voters is ultimately in the trillions.

My remedy would be to forbid Congressmen from accepting any contribtions while in office – not even a cup of coffee – with seriously enforced criminl felonies for violation, in cluding being expelled from Congress permanently.

To make this realistic I would increase each member’s salary to $2 million a year so they could live comfortably and vote their consciences freely.

As for lobbyists – they can lobby as much as they want but there is to be no payment or benefit flowing from them to the Congressmen of any kind direct or indirect – also with seriously enforced felony penalties.

Only then will we have a chance of pulling out of the ABYSS
Bush has landed us in.

SMRTNUP Says:

Yep, . . RYAN, . . The elimination of Cash is and will become the ultimate method of fighting crime on Planet Earth. . . There can never be a One World Rule as long as Nations have their individual Currencies. . . Many events of today are occurring which will FORCE the primary Prophecies of the END-TIMES to come to pass ! . . . 99% of all crime would simply vanish if there was NO CASH MONEY to be gained from it ! . . . The ANTICHRIST must rule from a position of absolute control over all human beings and the only way for that to happen is for him to be able to control the MEANS OF SELLING AND BUYING ALL THINGS. . . Discussions and negotiations about eliminating ALL CURRENCY has been going on behind closed doors for a long time now. . . Pretty soon it will become a reality. . . I don’t like it, . . Who does ? . . But it’s the way the Nature of Human Life on Earth has been set up and arranged by our CREATOR and that’s the way it will eventually be !!! . . . I don’t care if you believe it or not !!! . . . Just because you might not believe in GRAVITY doesn’t mean it will cease to exist for you nor for me !!! . . . However, . . You might want to at least CONSIDER what happens to us after this life on Earth is over !!! . . . Just a thought to ponder. . . .

Gerry St. Onge Says:

I agree that corruption is systemic in the US, and that it is allowed to flourish because of the continual, very costly election process.

I think the first action is to put a floodlight on the activity, and report what we see. The legislation is written by the lobbyists. Lobbyists represent special interest groups. Special interest groups that are motivated by profit and money are ruled by the bottom line and do not act as human beings with a conscience. So put that all together and we have these entities (lobbyists)writing our laws (running our government) that do not act in the interest “of the people”. The results is big business rule of law and we see it in all industries, often to the detriment of “the people”.

In addition we have to find some way to break the connection between our elected leaders and big business. This all came to point for me when I viewed the movie “Food Inc.” – an excellent example of how special interest influences our government in ways that are disastrous to the people.

There are some interesting ideas among the replies I have read here. If we could wave a wand and mandate term limits, that would help. Unfortunately that would require a change to the constitution. Another good use of the wand would be to ensure that all incumbents lose their next election.

At this point the only tangible thing I can think of is the floodlight idea. The American public is asleep at the wheel. We need to wake them up and when they see perilous path we are on, we can mobilize to change it from the grass roots. Perhaps the power of social media and networks provide an effective vehicle to start a grass roots community movement.

I for one am compelled to do something – I’m not sure what it will be but I will take action!

Just think: when the Lord comes for his 1000 year reign, there will be no hunger, no disease, no corruption in government, no lying, no cheating, no theft, no terrorism, no titty bars, no porn, no Hollywood, no abortion mills, no homosexuality, no Buddhists, no Hindus, no Muslims, and no liberals. This is the way it’s going to be. Very, very few people will survive the tribulation (only believers will). This is not imagination, it’s the truth. How will YOU fit in?
