Measures To Check Rising Crimes Against Children
It is a matter of shame and distress that crimes against children are constantly on the rise. Child abuse has become so common today that it is hardly reported. Child labour has also been accepted as a part of our day-to-day living. Reports of infants being raped fill newspapers columns in our daily newspaper day after day.
Crimes against children can be checked by not leaving them alone from an early age. Even close relatives, who are often accused of heinous crimes against children, should not be trusted by leaving children in their custody or care when the parents away. It needs constant vigilance on the part of parents whose sacred duty, it is to ensure that safety of their children if they are not grow up with warped personalities and complexes.
Another measure would be to teach children from an early age not to trust any one, even closest of relatives except their own parents in matters of food, clothing, housing and other basic necessities of life. Children should be gently warned of the dangers of associating not only with strangers but also even with their close relations. This should be done not by telling them horror stories of crimes against children but through other methods that would guide them in their conduct. They should also not be encouraged to accept gifts from relatives or friends, for they are easy allurements for children.
It is also the duty of social organizations to raise their voice against the rising graph of crimes against children so that a general awareness about such inhuman acts can be created in the general public. This should be followed by stringent legislation whereby perpetrators of crimes against children are awarded exemplary punishments. This would act as a deterrent to those who may be preserve enough to force themselves on children for satisfying their lust.
