Diabetes Type 2 – The Latest Epidemic to Hit Children Worldwide

Diabetes Type 2 has long been a problem for adults across the world, but it is now being seen more and more often in children and teenagers and the trend is disturbing medical professionals everywhere.

Diabetes Type 2 is a chronic, lifelong condition that arises when an individual’s pancreas fails to produce enough insulin, or when the body is simply failing to process insulin properly. Insulin is of course a naturally produced hormone that breaks down sugars in the body and converts them for use as energy.

Without the correct amount on insulin available to process the sugars, it stays in the bloodstream, resulting of course in overly high blood sugar levels. This leaves a patient open to all kinds of infections, illnesses and other medical complications.

Although there are a number of reasons that a juvenile can develop diabetes Type 2 experts believe the recent increase in the numbers of children being diagnosed with the disease can be directly linked with the increase in the number of children who are considered obese these days. Study after study is being released that indicates that the lack of real nutrients in many children’s diets (too much sugary soda, too many salty snacks and not enough vegetables) and the tendency of many modern children to spend hours in front of video games instead of playing outside are real problems.

Once diabetes Type 2 is diagnosed in a child it cannot be cured, it will be with them for life. There are however an increasing number of ways that treatment can be delivered that make it far easier for a child with diabetes type 2 to live a more “normal life” and reduce the impact of the condition on their developing bodies.

Accurate blood sugar level monitoring is essential, in order for a patient and/or their parents to know exactly how much artificial insulin they should be given each day to maintain a health. Maintaining good blood sugar levels as a youth can stave off many of the problems that adult diabetics face, such as damage to the eyes, kidneys, nerves and the development of diabetic ulcers. The meters that are available these days to do that are easy to use, and far more accurate than they were just a few years ago.

But still, a healthy diet is key to controlling a child’s Diabetes Type 2. Most pediatricians will outline a sensible eating plan for a child on an individual basis, as certain foods may trigger a spike in their sugar levels more than others. Medical professionals also advise that a child with diabetes type 2 get regular exercise. Few suggest a “workout” program but simple activities such as taking a walk or playing outside with friends can make a real difference.

Trying to get kids outside to play or walk is like trying to win the lottery. Why ? TV took over the world and now all the exercise many of us get is walking from the couch to the refrigerator. TV has taught our children how to have free sex. How to kill some one. How to commit a crime. And how to commit suicide. The person that e-i nvented TV should smash them all up. Of course that is impossible. Plus the cell phones where kids can have talks their parents would be ashamed of. Called modern techknowledgyit is killing more people than you could realize. Wonderful wonserfulTV land. All for money and they do not care but tell you to change the channel. NICE.
