Marriage is supposed to be based on Spiritual compatability. That compatability is made through love, not dowry. God created Adam then Eve, no dowry was given, unless you consider that Adam lost one of His ribs for a type of dowry. But that rib was a supernatural gift from God our Father anyway, not from Adam per se. Eve was born into existence and into marriage by and through Adams rib. Those young Indain women should move out of their country. Instead of their poor parents collecting gold and silver for her dowry. They should be doing it to send out of the country to a place where dowry is not a law. Then once she is married she can return to her country.

I think wise women of India will say that they have no dowry coming….if the groom and his parents don’t appreciate the intrinsic worth of the wife, transferring her family’s wealth will not lighten her burden.

Let the bride’s parents refuse to dower their daughter…they can change their minds once they know the match has been a good one.

I still think it is a great idea.
It shouldn’t prevent poor women from marrying.
I do agree that isn’t right but why should the husband bare the burdon without some incentive.

It takes courage to speak up as you have done! Every voice makes a difference in terms of change. Forty years ago…a black president would have been unthinkable. Likewise, as long as it takes–the dowry system will ultimately also be unthinkable.
