Guantanamo Bay Detainees

Guantanamo Bay detainees site should be Open or Closed: What you want?

We need to keep the Guantanamo Bay detainees site open. The Senate, in a rare flash of wisdom, told Mr. Obama that he will not get the money. 80 millions of dollars are needed to close Gitmo and transfer the prisoners to the US. The question is very simple and has not yet been clearly answered by this administration. What is he plan for the detainees and terrorists that are held there? The Republicans have found a soft site in the belly of the Democrats who thought, actually did not think at all, that this was a non-issue. Whoa there! Americans let their representatives know quite quickly that this is an issue. We don’t want them here. Keep Gitmo open. It’s the only real option.

The question is not whether or not we can make a prison that will keep them, as some on TV seem to think. We do need to be concerned about another attack to free them if held here. That is obvious but a minor concern I think. The real problem occurs once these people get here. The ACLU, some in Congress and our liberal courts want to give them rights like the citizens they want to kill. Once that happens, there will be no trial as the intelligence community will shy away from prosecution if significant details need be given out. Obama wants to make some changes in the trial procedures by eliminating hear say evidence. This does nothing help protect the intelligence agencies and their people and how they do their work. Obama and he Democrats have a serious problem on their hands. Under the present methods at work, we cannot bring them here for trial. The refusal of the Senate will delay the handling of the terrorists and Gitmo will stay open.

We have only found 2 countries to take back any of these people: two detainees may go back to France and Britain. That’s all folks. Nobody else wants them except Yemen. Of those still held, about thirty will get released and eighty go to some sort of trial. But where will that be if not Gitmo? It’s the only place we can protect our intelligence apparatus and still put the guilty terrorist in jail.

Finally, Senator Reed and his Democratic colleagues see the light. They, like the people they represent, want to see a full plan outlining what will happen. Now, no state wants them in their territory. The Democratic senator of California said no thanks, as did the Big Sky state and others. Only Johnstown, Pa. said ok. They could use the jobs.

Mr. Curtis Says:

Well. . I have a solution. Put them all in one yard, and supply with lots of booze, the problem would soon be a “DEAD ISSUE” Only 1 or 2 would be left to send to trial. Then make Gitmo into a U S luxury resort. Make the Cubans jealous !

George Uhler Says:

Finally congress got it right!!

Ronald E. Martin Says:

It should remain open.

Des Says:

Prop it to keep it open or prop to close it?
The vote is not clearly represented

How much does it cost to have the detainees at guantanamo? Are we so paranoid to believe that we are more prone to attack because they are here. A speedy trial has not happened, justice has not been served. The people accused and convicted have no rights here. If the percieved threat about more attacks by these individuals is a reality then they don’t belong on this planet. Do away with WAR criminals NOW! Not when we finally get around to giving them a long drawn out trial. Persecute the guilty ones and eliminate the detainee population and put an end to the need of such a prison.

I am a democart and I want the Detainment Center to remain open. I feel these prisoners or “detainees”which ever is the preferred term, should remain on a military base gaurded by soldiers. These prisoners should be held if there is a valid reason for holding them. Prosecuted under the rules of war or released back to the country of nationality. They should never be allowed to set foot on the soil of this freedom nation, Americans have died because of the terrorists actions and not just soldiers, but first the civilians. Please do not ever forget 9/11/2001. My tax dollars shall not be spent to move these prisoners. Thay do not have rights, this should not be a gateway around the punishment they deserve or the deportation back to the land they claim to love. There are many other things that the AMERICAN people need that money can be spent to help us.

Pertaining to Guantanamo Bay detainees: I personally thing the president is doing the right think by closeing Guantanamo Bay. I also think the president should have made it very clear that he is not the one who made the decision that these detainies should be tried in federal court rathan a millitary court. The trueth of the matter is that it was the US State Attorney General who made that call.

I agree with the Us State Attorney Generals opinion on this matter for the following reasons.
1. The US Millitary is not above the Law
2. The Us Millitary is bound by the US Constitution as well
as International Law “The Geneva Convention”
3 If the US Millitary is allowed to torture and in some
cased kill detainies in direct violation of the US
Constitution and International Law, WE THE PEOPLE have
have lost our freedom and all right to due proces of Law.
4. More importantly, If WE THE PEOPLE allow this kind of
conduct to exist in our Millitary; How much longer would
it be before WE THE PEOPLE allowed this same kind of
conduct to exist within our State and Local Law Enforment
Agencies. THINK ABOUT IT.

This is only my opinion for what it’s worth You decide for youself. whether we should clode down Guantanamo Bay or not.
