Chiropractic Health Care

Why Chiropractic Health Care is Necessary for Spine Treatment?

The Origin and Tenet of Chiropractic Health

Chiropractic health care is concerned with the health care administered to the spine. In chiropractic medicine, chiropractors engage in spinal manipulation to bring a relief from different ailments of the spine. Chiropractic medicine is not a new concept; it is as old as the Hippocrates period; but it started being a popular way of spine treatment in 1895 which is regarded as it’s year of inception.

A common belief among chiropractors is that spine structural and biochemical derangement has the capacity of affecting the nervous system. This belief or tenet is based on the fact that anatomically, the nervous system is very closely related with the spine. Chiropractic health providers have continued to hold this belief tenaciously and also, the belief is a propelling force for individuals who seek for chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic treatment works by determining and restoring the integrity of the spinal structure to improve the individual’s health; through reduction of pressure on the neurological tissue that is sensitive.

Those seeking for chiropractic health care should note that the use of drugs or surgery is not part of the methods of treatment used by the chiropractors. Notwithstanding, a chiropractor health provider can only refer patients to medical doctors if they dictate such need in a patient.

Chiropractic Examination Procedure

In diagnosing a patient for chiropractic treatment, a detailed history is required from the patient to enable the chiropractor to determine the areas being complained about; such history includes:

  • Dietary pattern/habits
  • Histories relating to previous treatments (this includes medical, osteopathic, chiropractic and other past treatments)
  • Family history
  • Occupational history
  • Psychological history and similar ones.

The next step in the chiropractic treatment is a physical examination, which can involve x-ray examination and lab analysis. This will be done following the outcome of the chiropractic case history and consultation as will be clinically judged by the chiropractor. In determining the segment of the spine that has a need for manipulation, the chiropractor has a good number of methods at his disposal.

Treatment Techniques

The common method used by chiropractors in identifying fixated or hypo-mobile segments of the spine is the use of static and motion palpation. For subluxations location, x-ray is used. Once these segments are identified, treatment is carried out through manipulation. A device that identifies the skin’s temperature in the Para-spinal region is used by some chiropractic doctors in identifying the areas of the spine that has a noticeable varying temperature that needs manipulation. In effort to balance the structure starting from the feet upwards, a good number of the chiropractors make use of biochemical means of administering treatment to the bipedal structure.

Chiropractic health care has been effective for spine treatment. The process of treating the spine by chiropractic means begins with diagnosis and physical examinations to determine the segments of the spine to be manipulated.

Chiropractors have helped me with back and neck pain, where other doctors couldn’t. I’ve been to a about 6 in my life and have found some not to be as good as others just like any other doctor. I agree that if you don’t start to see any improvement within 2 weeks the good doctors usually will refer you to the appropriate care. I prefer going to the Chiropractor for a disc herniation rather than getting surgery. I know people who had surgery and are crippled. If they only knew but were scared because of a news show showing a bad doctor but ignoring the good ones.

please correct the year of inception to 1895 when Dr DD Palmer gave the very first chiropractic manipulation to improve a patients hearing.

A wonderful Chiropractor helped me with Scoliosis. I was 11 when I was diagnosed. I had suffered from migraines and some of them where really bad. The doctors at that time wanted me to have metal rods inserted along my spine! Scary! Thank God we were introduced to chiropractic care. I am 38 now and on occasion, I still go see a chiropractor, although I have not had a migraine since the 1980’s.

KEY word “BELIEF”. Chiropractic is RELIGION, not SCIENCE. Use it with faith, not logic. that’s all the proof it has.

Chiropractors are scam artists who routinely, as a matter of course, bring every one of their patients back for 8-12 “treatments” in order to bill insurance companies over and over again for multiple treaments whether they are needed or not. They are part of the problem when it comes to the healthcare cost debate. Patients who claim they were helped could have helped themselves through exercise and streatching in their own homes.

I went to a physiotherapist for 3 visits per week for a 2 month period as recommended by my MD for back pain. That didn’t help so I was refereed to a orthopedic surgery who injected me 5 times with cortisone over another 2 moth period. The last injection increased the pain and numbness down my leg. That didn’t work so the orthopedic surgeon recommended surgery. I didn’t do anything for another 6 months. I didn’t want surgery and the pain was getting worse. I went to my MD again and he said the surgeon is my only option or more physiotherapy. I was recommended a Chiropractor by friend. After 4 visits I felt about 75% better and after 6 more visits I’m pain free. The Chiro is now teaching me how to strengthen my back and core muscles. No pressure and no brain washing.

I asked my MD about Chiropractic and he just laughed. My Chiropractor was respectful to the MD and physiotherapist and recommend I consult my MD for a follow up examination.
