Medical Testing on Animals
Should We Stop Medical Testing on Animals and Start Testing on Humans? lol
Is it essential to have medical testing on animals to make humans lives better? This is an endless debate.
Animal testing is experimenting products ranging from cosmetics, household compounds to pharmaceutical products on the animals before they are approved for human consumptions or usage. There are reports that say 20 million animals are killed annually to support research and animal testing. In many cases it has been found that while testing products, animals are not even administered painkillers and many instances they suffer from serious consequences.
The arguments that are directed against animal testing mainly rest on the ground of moral ethics. There are supporters of animal rights group who argue that it is inhuman to torture animals as no one has right to meddle with the lives of innocent creatures. The reasons that are put forth against animal testing are whether these examinations are at all a necessity or not. The question that arises is the goal for which animal testing is being done is significant or not. Other arguments are that it is not a proven fact that reaction of a drug on animal is identical to that on humans. There are examples which show that a product considered food for animals can be poisonous for humans; sheep, goat, mice and horses consume large quantities of hemlock which is toxic for man and also lime which is so much a must in every kitchen is fatal for cats.
People who have been arguing against animal testing propagate banning it.
However, proponents of animal testing argue the fact that if animal testing will be banned then it would be a blow to medical research and scientific experiments. Innovation for new drugs for human medication and treatment option will become limited and healthcare development will face a serious challenge.
For these animals testing is a great tool for the development of vaccines, antibiotics and hormone replacement therapy drugs and oral contraceptives. Again, it has been argued that painkillers would not have been born if there had been no animal testing. The painkillers are not only used by humans but they are administered even on these living beings. If millions of animals could be slaughtered for consumption and that allowed purportedly, why not allow animal testing for medical research is most of the proponents of animal testing argue.
So with all these arguments the moral dilemma with animal testing continues.
