Tension disturbs our mind: Do you agree?

Tension is the result of absence of presence of mind. Ego is also responsible. The mind cannot come to control or relax if we have tension. We cannot understand what is happening and what we are doing because of hustle and tension. If we do any work under these circumstances the result is zero.

Some incidents keep us in tension. We become nervous and there will be a sort of fear in the mind. Sometimes our hands and legs start to shiver. Heart beating becomes more. This is all due to tension. The mind gets disturbed. We never try to understand the situation. So we have to analyse the situation. We should not allow our mind to lose equilibrium.

A person is in tension means the reason is not the situation. The cause is the person himself. He is created tension and has created tension. His mind cannot come to control. Suppose you do not like a situation thinking that it creates tension. What you have to do is – come out of it or do not take it to your mind. Be patient. Drop all the tensions.

If you are patient and you have peace of mind then there will not be any tension. Actually there is no tension anywhere. It is you, who create tension. Tension disturbs our mind. So relax you mind keeping away from tension.

Fred Harris Says:

A lot of today’s tension is caused by the high-tech, fast-paced, competitive world that we live in. It’s no wonder that so many people are taking drugs, like anti-depressants and tranquilizers, to cope with life. Before computers and all the high-tech gizmos, before there were so darned many people, and traffic has gotten so bad, for instance in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, life was a lot slower paced, and not as much was expected of people. A lot is expected of us nowadays. You had better know how to operate the latest “whizgizmo” or you may not get or keep your job. Or you cannot keep up with the “young whippersnappers” who have had computer training since they were in Kindergarten. I long for the time when mail was sent by putting a stamp on an envelope, when phones were hardwired in the house. But those days are gone for good.

I tend to agree with Mr. Harris who replied here also. In the mid-to-late 1980s there was an article published in a mainstream magazine that stated modern society was being affected by something called the “acceleration syndrome.” People had begun to try and do more than one thing at a time (what is known now as “multi-tasking”)abd to try and do these things in an efficient manner. The stress and/or tension that results why trying to do more than one thing very well at the same time is what many people experience today.
I believe that some people have “high anxiety” as a result of a psychological imbalance or a metabolic (sugar level disturbance maybe) imbalance. Anxiety/tension can also be caused by a lot of caffeine perhaps too. The thing is in modern society we’ve got a “catch 22″ going on with the caffeine however. Caffeine gives a person energy and that excess energy lends itself to the belief that more tasks can be accomplished. And then the way that multi-tasking becomes expected nowadays people need the caffeine to keep them going.
I, too, long for the days when people moved slower. There is a song by singer/songwriter Randy Newman for some years back entitled “Dayton, Ohio 1903.” The lyrics go something like “sing a song of long ago when things were slow and folks were nice to you…” — i possibly have the words a bit skewed but the jist of it is the same. No, I don’t want to go back 100 years — back to the 50s and 60s and maybe the early to mid 70s.
One thing i wondered at some point is if we humans are subconsciously trying to compete with computers on some level. Computers do everything soo incredibly quick. It’s a losing competition for us humans however and the sad thing is we are the ones who’ll shortcircuit (brain burnout) way before computers ever will.

Absolutely. I think tension can make some of us loose focus on what we have to do. It could be work, school, or a simple task. If your mind is disturbed by any kind of tension it could cause you problems. When I was a young girl my parents used to argue a lot and it caused me constant tension like… “are they going to argue today?” , “is dad gonna be in a bad mood?”. So in my head I was constantly worried about my parents arguments to the point that I couldn’t concentrate in school. Now as a young adult I seem to have the same problem, except that now I worry about my life, and sometimes it causes for me to loose track of what I’m doing at work. I’m constantly worried and it is so annoying!!
I need to learn to accept that some things in life are not going to be perfect and we have to make the best of life and live one day at a time. Is easier said than done… I should really follow that!!
But is hard to change the way I think, if I wasn’t so worried all the time I would be able to concentrate more. My mother is the same way she’s constantly tense. Is their a condition for this? does anyone know?
My goal for 2009 is to worry less and smile more… Life is really short so why not make the best of it!!!

Rachael Ranalletta Says:

Tension is a result of the mind’s inability to cope with distractions. We are constantly distracted from what is truly important to us. There are messages all over that tell us what is good and what is not. So much of this distracts us from what truly feels good, the simple truths and beauty in life. When we weed out the distractions by remembering what really matters..our health & wellbeing then we can find peace in chaos. The question is how many people are willing to risk what others tell them to do in order to hear the voice within. The voice that knows what we truly need which is what will set us free.
