Leisure is the time taken off from one’s usual activities, the time that cannot be put to use for furthering one’s occupational prospects. It means an opportunity to divert our efforts and attention to activities that can recharge us.

Leisure and its importance are universally recognized. The idea of leisure varies from person to person. A man engaged in mental activities, will find healthy diversion in manual activities like gardening, fishing and a person engaged in physical activities as part of his work, may find activities of the mind a great relief and a promising a pastime. The best way to use leisure is by engaging in healthy and interesting hobbies.

Our aim should be to seek a diversion from our regular activities, not to stay inactive. Some consider leisure as a period for complete rest or total inactivity. Such a tendency is harmful as it creates laziness in us.

Leisure should be used as a tonic to energize one for work and not to breed laziness. If it is imaginatively used, it can add spice to one’s life. It can make our life on earth not only tolerable but enjoyable also.

We can make life useful by being useful to other fellow beings by carrying on useful activities in our leisure. No doubt that leisure time is worth more than working time.
