Give Pilates a try, you will be amazed at how beneficial it is! I began with a class that met 2x @ wk. for 8 wks. and was impressed with my overall improvement in flexibility, balance, and strength. Continued on for another 8 wks. before it was over. I am middle-aged, obese, and was not participating in any type of exercise program when I began. Most of the exercises can be modified as needed to fit any fitness level. By the end of 16 wks. I was in better shape, my legs had toned and slimmed, I lost 10 pounds without much effort, and the chronic, long-time pain in my lower back had improved. Before beginning, I could barely walk a short block without a lot of pain; now I am able to walk a mile with little pain and continue to steadily improve. It has been the most beneficial exercise routine for my current fitness level and has conditioned me to the point of being able to partake in aerobic exercise on a modified level. I highly recommend it to everyone. It truly is a “workout”, more challenging than it looks; and very beneficial!
