Drugs: One Way Ticket to Hell

Today the menace of drugs has the youth in its vicious group. From smoking, a young man graduates to strong doses. Drugs coming under various labels become a password for acceptance among the youngsters. Why does one fall a victim to drugs? The answer to this question is not far to seek.

We live in a world of changed norms, changed patterns, changed values and changed success patterns. Some are unable to cope with these changes. They become frustrated and turn to drugs for relief.

Some start drugs for fun. What starts as fun ends as sin? They get sucked in a never-ending quagmire. Some anti-social elements snare youngsters into this evil so that they can earn a fast buck. This leads to stealing and even to murder. It certainly is a one-way ticket to hell.

The government should enact stringent laws to curb drugs related menace. At the same time parents and elders should play a construction role in moulding the character of the youngsters.

Being on crack cocaine myself…right now….while I am typing this…I can tell you…it is a strong force leading you. The more someone tells you or tries to force you to stop, the more resistant you become. An addict has to decide and stop for his or herself. You don’t need help when you are tired of it for real. You just get angry, and your anger has to be stronger than your withdrawal, or you really aren’t ready to stop. The more laws they do the more evil it gets.

Ariba Says:

there is no doubt taking drugs is wrong. we should treat the victim humbly they need sympathy. Only then they can be revived.

In the 19th centery in america, there were no drug laws, and thus no drug-related organized crime. We are responsible for creating an underground blackmarket. Instead of giving the government more power to fight a unwinnable war on drugs, emphasis should be placed on educating the young about the dangers of drugs. Education should not simply be that “drugs are bad”. This is false- Many illegal drugs like marijuana have medicinal beneifts that the gov. refuses to recognize. If drugs were legalized, it perhaps wouldn’t curb addictions, but would greatly reduce drug-related violence.

Can anyone honestly say.. “he was so high on the gonja, that he freaked out an killed somone.” I feel that if they legalized pot, the other drugs wouldn’t be wanted as much. Ya, your gonna have your addicts no matter what. Plus the government will make so much on the taxes from the sale of pot, it would almost solve the deficit. When your doctor tells you that pot will help your headaches and the side effects from chemo, you need to wonder, the only reason that they don’t prescribe it is the drug companies would lose alot of money.

Pat Slater Says:

I use Marijuana for medicinal purposes at the recommendations of 3 of my physicians. Illegal advice but it works on stress a whole lot better than the ‘legal’ medications. There are no side effects and it doesn’t interfere with the rest of my meds.

I have never utilized any other of the illegal substances, I am not interested in ‘getting high’. I am also not interested in poisoning my body with the drugs available on a street corner or in bars.

Marijuana should be legal for use. The Government’s own research proved that marijuana is not addictive physically. Mentally you could become addicted to almost anything including peanut butter.

The government should follow it’s own study results on Marijuana instead of keeping it illegal. I break the law every day using one bowl of marijuana daily.

Alex Says:

If you feel like you know everything about addiction, you dont. Ive lost close friends to jail, long term rehab and death, and im sure i don’t know everything about it either. What i do know is that people finds ways to escape reality, Somepeople read books, play video games and watch tv, people with addictive personalities do drug and/or drink to much. “life is only as good as you make and is only as bad as you let it be”. I had a problem with pain killers most of my life. then one day i hit bottom, and was forced to change. I have been clean for almost 3 years.Stronger laws cant change or help the problem because you will be throwing people in jail who are no different then you. Everybody who uses drugs use for a different reason. My reason was pain, Some people use to forget, some use to feel numb about the reality of there lifes. And remember not all drug addicts are murders and hardin criminals.

This is one of the worst articles I’ve ever read. This person obviously hasn’t got a clue what they’re talking about. I also agree with all five comments before mine.

Jim Says:

Many drugs & the way they are being used are certainly a path to destruction. I started taking drugs & drinking when i was 13 yrs. old, just for kicks. After about 10 yaers, the fun was gone, i quit all drugs, except alcohol, & that for the next 10 yrs. caused me more problems than i had before.I finally quit drinking, & now only smoke pot. Ihave smoked pot for 35+ years now, am 51, own a sucessful company & am a proud father & grandfather. I have never been arrested, been fired from a job, or had an auto accident.I dont buy drugs from corner dealers, but from others of like mind & age. You have seen the signs “drink responsibly”, weel live responsibly. I only smoke pot at night, at home, when im not going out, & only my wife & i are home. Let the good times roll!!

Mike Says:

Drugs are indeed evil, as are the pushers. I started on some drops for glaucoma, which then raised my blood pressure. Then I was precscibed a diuretic, and a pill for my cholesterol, which had elevated. The pill for the cholesterol then nearly shut down my liver.

I could have avoided all of this by just smoking marijuana for my glaucoma, but it isn’t legal in my state.

I just can’t believe how big pharma and my own doctor colluded to get money from my insurance provider, and take at least 15 years off of my life.

Staples Says:

My God,under what rock did you just crawl out from under. good morning, hey its 2009 there Rumpelstiltskin, join the party.

With the info and tone and lack of unbiased info, I feel like I am listening to a sermon about the devil himself…drugs.

as a matter of fact just like the person woe revealed earlier and was smoking crack as he ty, to each his own. Please do not think your outdated opinion applies t all and every drug. You write as if, you were one of the script writers of the film, “Reefer Madness”. As a matter of fact I too am enjoying an occasional bit of fine Columbian. It seems to be of good quality, but it all depends on what you cut it with and how much. Yes gang, I am talking about coffee. caffeine is a very powerful drug and stimulant. Look it up and see the properties of caffeine. you will be surprised.

I also admittedly take offense to the idea that drugs are only killing young people. How many stories do you read about young people dieing of liver disease, cirrhosis and or wet brain or dementia? not a hell of a lot. Alcohol is the most widely abused drug that we have today. It can’t be a drug, it’s legal. Well, so is pot for medicinal reasons which I am all for). Alcohol is a depressant like opiates heroin, barbiturates, benzo’s morphine etc. Unlike cocaine is a stimulant like uppers ( haven’t used that term since the 70’s, but I recognize this audience of 1, so I’ll dumb it down).

I could write a thesis on this comment, but I am not. Finally, the comment I pick for last is a combo platter actually. He asks why do do ‘youngsters’(it sounds like its from the Big book circa 1939). First he lists as change. In society, norms, success patterns etc. why not add new video games you don’t have, a broken remote, not having HD TV, these are all change too. The one of the biggest thing an addict/alcoholic ( 1 in the same when it comes down to it) is change. Addicts hate to change their comfort zone and what they are used to. it may be one of the reasons people find it difficult the first, second 10th, 20th time they try to get sober and on with their life. Change is not an invitation to use drugs, it is more of a reason that it is so hard to quit them. Another fact gone amiss.
Are drugs used for fun and a gateway to other drugs? Definitely a possibility. Not all the time, but it is not out of line to hear that pot is the most popular drug tried first and than moved on. some never go any further and some become garbage heads. doing anything they can get their hands on. Just to show you, i do not live in this fantasy world where all is clean beautiful and clean air and no addictions except to home baked pies cooling on the window sill by a nice lady in an apron. Like my friend RB says, now I’m starving. The truth is for some you can never get high enough. You can never recapture that first high. that first snort, first toke on the glass di*k of crack / freebase for the wealthier. The first time of the warmth and glow of the feeling of heroin hitting your body despite the needle still sticking out of your arm. Yes its all very real. the search never ends and never succeeds. Drugs may be a lot of things. It sounds to me and excuse me if I am wrong, that you are either a member of some order of clergy or a deeply religious man who as many do get misled in ancient writings for modern problems. Drugs are lots of things like I said, but a SIN? doubtful. In that case I would have to say we are all sinners. have you ever taken cold medicine or sinus relief drops, capsules, tabs, fluid, any for, it doesn’t matter. did you know that some of them can get you arrested while driving. Many contain alcohol, see Nyquil. Many others contain antihistamines, which if you choose to take and they are over the counter medicines sold not in drug stores but also behind your deli counter or gas station in individual packs. Read the label, do not drive, operate heavy machinery? and other stuff. Antihistamines make you sleepy. Combined with something else or just alone can make you unfit to drive and therefore a driving under the influence. It doesn’t have to be of alcohol, even though remember it to is a drug. You also make comment that drug usage can lead to things such as stealing and murder, well I finally agree with you archaic philosophy. Yes it can and does. Most of the crimes that people are in prison or jail for are drug related. that isa fact. What else is a fact is that stealing and murder are finally sins, according to the 10 Commandments s brought down from MT Sinai by Moses himself, as follows:
“And God spoke all these words, saying: ‘I am the LORD your God…

ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’

TWO: ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.’

THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.’

FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’

FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother.’

SIX: ‘You shall not murder.’

SEVEN: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

EIGHT: ‘You shall not steal.’

NINE: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.’

TEN: ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.’

Stealing and murder, you got it front and center…each having their own #. As hard as I tried to stretch, I couldn’t relate any of these as to the taking of drugs as a sin. Yes this is not alone the only rules to break in the eyes of this religious belief, but a good starting point.

all of the views mostly in your comment frighten me a bit. Very Far Far Right ultra conservative bible thumping, jerry Falwell (RIP) blind followers and believers. those who do not have a thought for themselves but are told to believe what is good and evil by men and women who sin themselves…allegedly. I have nothing against those views, just don’t cram them down the throats of those who don’t believe, don’t lock arms around clinics letting people make decisions for themselves. It would be like others locking arms around your churches on days of service and not letting you in to do as you please in your beliefs. Hypocritical, yeah. Homosexuality is a sin..Ok lets not TOUCH that subject. OK, just to prove a point that your knowledge of this area is subject to say the least and opinion is biased, I have strayed a bit off topic. Strayed, sure, but do i believe that there is a huge correlation among the and beliefs in between or overtly in this message? You betcha.

Just to let you know as an FYI. I am not a liberal, a Democrat, a Satan loving heathen or an active drug abuser. I am a recovering addict / alcoholic who is also just a human being prone to mistakes.

I hope that others by their own choice, especially the youngsters, do not take either of our beliefs as the ultimate and only truth. I hope they never even have to consider any of this in their lifetime and aren’t cursed with this disease. let them be drug free and happy, by their own choice if possible. some things are truly out of our hands.

Jeremiah Says:

Recreational drugs present a conundrum to society. Humans in general seek mind altering drugs in order to reduce stress, socialize and experience the pleasurable alteration of reality brought about by their chemical effects. As such, the synthesization and use of drugs is entirely normal and pervasive in the majority of human societies. However, due to the addictive nature of many drugs and the propensity of humans to use them to excess, the use of drugs is often proscribed to certain times and places, and divided into classes of legal and illegal depending mostly on how physically addictive they are. Because of social convention or widespread, traditional use, some addictive drugs are legal, such as nicotene and alchohol while others, derivatives of coca leaves, opium poppies and synthetic stimulants have proven so immediately addictive and destructive that they are illegal. It is known that addiction is not a matter of willpower, it is not a matter of character, it is simply the introduction of a substance into the body that affects and changes the brain chemistry of the user, making the use of the drug imperative. The power of this chemical enslavement overwhelms all other normal aspects of the users life and as tolerance for the addictive drug grows, more and more of the drug must be used to either get the same effects or to prevent withdrawal. As the dosages increase the drug ultimately becomes the only objective focus of the users life, time and money. Because of this effect, drugs, illegal and legal are extremely profitable. Treatments for drug use are also very profitable. All addictive drugs eventually create physical and psychological side effects affecting the health and welfare of their users. Thus an entire industry has arisen out of the need to treat drug use through different therapies. The overall effectiveness of such programs is generally low, yet occasionally there is a success in eliminating an addicts cravings which validates the effort. In conjunction with the drug suppy and treatment industries there are also the profitable enforcement and administrative drug industries. Both legal and illegal drugs require a vast network of enforcers and administrators. The enforcers are employed not only to interdict illegal drug trade but also to address the crimes often committed by addicts whose legal and illegal drug use has caused their judgement to become so affected as to cause personal and property damage to society at large. As such, there is a hugely profitable incarceraton industry associated with enforcement that warehouses addicts of legal and illegal drugs. This in turn creates a need for an several administrative arms to deal not only with the taxation, licensing and monitoring of legal drugs but also the identification, interdiction and elimination of illegal drugs as well as the incarceration of users who have been jailed for violating any of the aforementioned strictures. Ultimately then, we can see that drugs, illegal and legal, are an important part of the world economy. With addicts supplying the money to legal and illegal drug manufacturers, creating the need for an entire treatment industry and attendant enforcement, incarceration and administrative industries. Any changes in drug policy will not essentially change this system, it will only re-balance it. If all drugs are legalized, although the illegal trade will be affected (yet not eliminated) there will likely be an increase in the treatment, incarceraton, enforcement and taxation arms of the drug industries. Likewise, making more drugs illegal would expand the illegal drug trade, expand the enforcement and incarceration industries but would likely shrink the administrative and treatment arms of the drug industries. Ultimately, perhaps the system we have in place is the most perfect. Since drugs are essentially part of the human condition we cannot eliminate them, especially if they are culturally entrenched, without fear of growing the illegal drug trade (think of the prohibition). Yet the most addictive drugs are so powerful that they are essentially resistant to treatment therapies (which are expensive), we cannot allow them wide dissemination or legalize their status without seeing a huge rise in incarcerations due to psychosis or personal and property damage to society at large. And even if such addictive drugs were legalized, it would have the effect of incorporating the illegal drug trade into society. The consequences of which, if we can deduce from how such capitalists behave if they have a product that creates it’s own ever expanding need, might actually create a government of addiction. Drugs, the industries they create are with us now and always will be. We cannot legalize certain drugs as their addictive properties are too severe and predominately resistant to therapies. So we must accept that an underworld of capitalists will always exist to not only service addicts but also to create them. Enforcement and administrative will always exist to manage legal drugs and combat illegal ones. And therapies will always exist to treat a few addicts and rescue them from their chemical enslavement.
