I’m wondering why smokers are being picked on. Why not increase the tax on alcohol sales. Drunk driving kills. Smoking while driving does not. Oh….the rich drink alcohol…to tax alcoholic drinks would cause a riffle among the wealthy. No…we can’t do that now can we. Then who would contribute to my campaigns if I piss them off. Can’t piss off the wealthy. This is getting ridiculous. At least be fair and raise the taxes for everything that society considers bad habits (ie..beer, liquor, cigarettes, fast food). Why is society worried about children smoking but not drinking. Not only is drinking bad for the liver etc, but young kids and adults drive while drinking or drunk and kill themselves and/or others. Can’t say that about cigarettes (yes a few cases of someone falling asleep with a cigarette but nothing compared to the drunk driving incidents, you hear about almost every day).

Well thats all well and good. But the medicine that one needs to help be successfull at not smoking is NOT covered by insureance companies. Not to mention that the cost is very high.

71 years old, widow, smokes and am thinking of organizing “sit ins” for smokers. Something must be done to stop this nonsense. I miss going out to dinner, having a glass of wine, and relaxing with a cigarette, let alone now paying almost $50 a carton. Added stress, more medication…..Thank you Mr. President!

Obama is a joke and always knew he was a joke. His presidency was bought! This guy is going to cause a serious revolt in America if he keeps up his BS! Not just from this Cig tax but from all his little policies that he thinks that are going to fly over well with the American people. He wants us to watch our spending while he spends millions a day flying around Air Force One, spends ungodly amount on a swing set for his kids, spent millions on a inauguration party. He has already tripled what Bush spent in 8 years, in 4 months. After he is done our supposed deficit is going to be outrageous. Come on lets be serious. Are people really falling for this guy? Do you really believe in his Socialist policies? He wants to govern everything, pretty soon we are gonna be communist. Wake up America, do not be in a daze because he Speaks well, Remember Hitler was a great speaker and got a whole nation to follow his mess. Not comparing Obama to Hitler, just saying he can make people follow just by the way he speaks. Open your eyes and smell the coffee and lets not let this guy get away with everything he proposes. There is a lot more I could say but will stop there. I know I will have somebody that will get on here and totally disagree but I am entitled to my opinion and am speaking on behalf of a lot of people that will never say anything and just sit back and watch this guy change the way you live in what is supposed to be a free country.

Whether a smoker or not I would hope for intelligence to reign and more people understand the control over American citizens going on with actions such as this tax by our elected government. Everything from pet ownership to what food we eat is being manipulated, taxed, banned, etc. If you’re a smoker you already feel the effects from just one of these. If you’re not a smoker- don’t worry, your turn is coming. Wonder which of your choices will be removed or otherwise ‘altered’? Drinking soda? Eating meat? Driving an SUV? How many children you have? What doctor you’re allowed to go to? Whether you can start your own business and what prices you can charge or how much money you’re allowed to make?
Before throwing others’ choices to the alligator it may be best to consider the alligator may eat you last, but he will eat you eventually.

I told my wife when all this started it seemed OBAMA is working like a reverse ROBIN HOOD,he’s taking taxpayer dollars and fueling the rich,now he’s tripled the tax on something that mainly affects the lower income families.I smoke,and despite what any non-smoker thinks ,it’s a hell of a lot harder to quit than you think.For decades tobacco companies have been allowed to add chemicals to there products,without any concern to what they were doing to the public.I’ll bet I know where he thinks he’s going to recover all that bonus money from,it’ll be everytime you light up.

up liquor tax you ignorate people. They kill many people and year and make everyone miserable. My ex is in a mental hospital from liquor. Also is caused our divorce. Not my smoking.

Well tobad something that you like isn’t taxed, say milk, bread, sugar, coffie, let’s be fair, you wouldn’t mind sharing the tax, huh? This is unfair to smokers.
